Section 15.070: OHV Operation on Highways (CVC §38025)

Motor vehicles identified as off-highway vehicles may be operated or driven upon a highway only as follows:

•On a two-lane highway, only to cross the highway at a 90 degree angle at a place where a safe and quick crossing can be made.

Hmmmm... Does this mean that I need to delete the 5 sets of "Pavement Run" waypoints from my master file?

Note to CHP officers who may be reading: Those waypoints are for *planning purposes only*, or for vehicles like jeeps that are street-legal. I'd never-ever actually ride my ATV between those waypoints.

Aw heck, if you're worried about showing the video, I have one of us riding through an entire TOWN on the pavement. Here you go, see for yourself, no lights and sirens.

It's funny, because on Mr. Miyagi we ride to Washington for lunch...and that requires riding into town on pavement. They have no problems with it. 10-12 ATV's riding into town and buying lunch is $$$$ to the town.

well not sure if you all know but to avoid problems you can push your atv across any road.
as long as it is not running it is leagal.

execpt freeways.

I wonder if LaPorte is the same way? When out in that area I've thought about riding into town for gas or lunch. I've ridden across Hwy 49 into Bassetts for ice cream and nobody seemed to care.

FYI, I ran into a forest service cop at Little Truckee Summit yesterday. He apparently saw me loading up and wanted to check my green sticker. He asked where I had been, I pointed to the east, and he didn't say anything about not crossing Hwy 89. That's only the second time I've ever seen one of their cops and both times it was at a staging area for a green sticker check.

Last year I was at LTS and a CHP officer was parked next to the bathroom in the shade. I rode right past him, out the pavement to Hwy 89, made a full stop at the intersection, then rode straight across to Cottonwood Road. He didn't give chase so all the cop types seem to know that going straight across a highway is cool. Had he given chase, he would have had a hard time nabbing me once I cut into the Bear Valley OHV trails.

i've done the same at Bassetts but one better , i topped off my tank at the pump!! nobody cared that i was spending money!
i too wonder about LaPorte, i rode my quad near town but never up to the store/pumps. i did see a dirty motorcycle at the pump once but wasn't sure if it was street legal.
i also rode thru the town of washinton, nobody cared that i was spending money!
even one better, a friend and i rode from chester,ca to butte meadows via humbug/skyway, had a fantastic burger at bambi inn, topped off our tanks at the tank house then rode back via humbolt rd, on the pavement for about ten miles till we hit dirt and once again nobody cared that i was spending money!

it seems that the state of california has it all wrong, but in contrast the sleepy little towns love the $$$$ that WE the atv community bring to them, towns like "Laporte, Foresthill, Cisco Grove, Chester, Soda Springs, Butte Meadows, Hirshdale, Washington, Chilcoot, Verdi, Loyalton, Portola" the list goes on and on...just imagine how much more revune could and would be generated from "atv touring".
my point is that the "great" state of Kalifornia can and should allow atv use on state and county roads,(Paiute Trail, Hatfield/McCoy ring a bell??) i know that the group i normally ride with would ride a system like the Paiute here in Califonia and spend money (food, lodging, entertainment, possible repairs) in these and other towns.
well thats my rant for now. and i realize that either put up or shut up so this is not the last of my rants, i'll just be directing my energy towards the right channels
