Bear at Buck Island Lake

Postby Ken » Tue Jun 29, 2010 1:34 pm

If you're planning to go to the Rubicon and camp around Buck Island Lake....take warning.

On our way into Buck Island this weekend (Thurs-Monday) we were warned by Merlin that there was a young bear hanging around at Buck and that it wasn't frightened of humans. Sure enough, when we arrived we saw it along the creek just hanging out. It's about 2-300 lbs and light brown/red in color. The guy at the camp next to the us fired 2 shots in the air from his 12ga. and the bear didn't budge. We spotted it again Friday morning in the same general area. We were all cautious to pick up our food and garbage so he didn't cause any trouble until yesterday morning. I got lazy and left our food box out over night. Well, Booboo (yes, my wife named it) paid us a visit, cleaned us out and made a mess. If you're planning on camping at Buck Island, be aware and be safe.
