I was wondering that too. Sounds like we might get some more snow up there early this coming week.

We know GrizzlyGuy is under about 140 feet of snow and won't be able to get his machine out until Summer of 2012, but I noticed on the CalTrans I-80 cameras that Kingvale looks remarkably free of snow, and Soda Springs has some here and there. I'm sure the shady north-facing slopes and roads are drifted though. In another week or two, I guess I'll have to go try my luck on FR-19 anyway.

Best guess, we will be able to ride on October 14th, 9:00 a.m. until about 3 p.m., then it will shut down for next season's snowfall.......

GG will be skiing from this season until next, nonstop!

And winter continues... a view to the east towards the Foresthill Divide and the high country. Don't know if it rained or snowed up there.

There are four circumstances where running an ATV in snow is fun:

1. The first 6"-12" of snow in the fall.
2. Thaw during the afternoon and freezing temps at night. The crust in the morning is great, but better be back before it gets soft.
3. Bandit riding packed and groomed snowmobile trails. Very fun, but the sledders get their undies in a bunch.
4. Tracks (so I hear)

Riding an wheeled ATV in soft deep snow is an oxymoron.

my brother went to check out the road today, gate is open, larger snow drifts start around wood chucker (chuck ?) camp ground. Which is about 2 miles in if memory serves me correct. He was in a 1 ton, so didnt make it far into the drifts but said he saw 1 ahead of where he got stuck that was atleast 100 yards long and several feet deep + slushy. He mentioned the temp was about 70-72 during the afternoon. On a side note lake spalding is open at least.

went sledding up there yesterday. Parked just before wood chuck.
Rode alot of dirt til about 1/4 mile before the signal/fordyce/sterling "y"
Once on top there was alot of snow, all the north sides were solid about 4-6 feet.
Fordyce was all water, except the finger by the road in, should be melted in a day or 2.
Sterling was still covered is snow, but getting really thin.
The road toward lola was soild snow from the first "y"

Looks like I will be sledding on the 4th of July

Yeah I was with Bill, I assume you saw that on either westcoastsledders or pirate4x4. If so you probably seen my pictures of the chitter at grouse and the meadow lake sign. Shows how fast the snow is melting, and also how much is left.
