GG: I've been interested in getting your Utah tracks in Garmin format. I could share some of mine as well.

I agree -- those maps have a roughly 50-70% accuracy at best when it comes to those trails. But it's still nice to have 'em... sometimes I can find a trail that is otherwise buried or overgrown. We've had to do this on some of the Nevada rides in the past (with you-know-who -- he who they've asked me not to speak of anymore). ;)

Those toughbooks are nice! Can't wait to get me a Netbook when the time comes. I've had to talk myself out of getting that Gateway a couple of times. At least now with two new quads, I have other things to distract me, financially-speaking.

Sure thing, I ZIPped them up and sent you a PM with a download link. They are all in GPX file format. Garmin will hopefully be able to eat those directly. If not, you can use GPSBabel to convert:

http://www.gpsbabel.org/

You can also download my Arapeen/Gooseberry trail system GPS map if you want:

http://grizzlyguy.tv/files/ArapeenAndGo ... ystems.zip

To install:

1) Create this folder on your computer: C:\ArapeenAndGooseberryTrailSystems

2) Unzip and put all the files in that folder.

2) Run the ArapeenAndGooseberryTrailSystems.reg file to register the map with Garmin MapSource.

4) You'll now see the map in MapSource's list. You can then upload it to your GPS along with your topo maps as usual.

P.S. - You could use a different folder name or drive, but then you'd have to edit the reg file so that it has the correct folder names/paths in it. You're a fellow geek so I'm sure you could handle it. 8)

You could just refer to him as "He Who Must Not Be Named". :-)

As to trails, I've been playing a game using ExpertGPS, which uses the old USGS quad maps. I mark waypoints on old trails shown, then try to find them out there in real-life. It's kinda fun, I was able to follow one for several hundred feet - very faint, but discernable - until it petered out in some logging debris. Others I cannot find any trace of, obliterated by decades of logging activity.

It did here - we get our internet over wireless from an outfit whose central site is over that way, so the power outage closed them down for awhile (our first hop is 3 miles!)

Not sure if this is of value to anyone or not, but thought I'd toss it in this thread.
