More Sierra Snow (Video)
This is a sequel to the Sierra Snow video. It was shot in the first week of October 2007 right after the early snow storm back then. We're riding just north of Yuba Pass along the snowmobile route.

Thanks guys. I think I was already getting down to the bottom of the barrel in terms of footage from that day, though. Unless I can find some more scenes of Flying Boy spitting into his face shield or getting smacked in the face by limbs, might be time to call that day a wrap. Viewer boredom is a bad, bad thing as it leads to less beer offers on the trail.

Hey GG - when you're up for adding 5.1 surround on your movies, here's a gadget for you!

Hot dang Dave, I might have to bag me one of them thar gadgets. That was an eerily timely reference, thanks!
You see, the owner of our silver Grizzly wants to make a short film (er, HD video that ends up looking like film if you do it right) so I've been scrambling around trying to come up to speed on the technology. Getting Dolby 5.1 audio onto an HD cam that only does stereo audio (or 4x mono), without going through an audio conversion process during post production, was the problem I was just working on.
I think you may have just solved it for me. Record Dolby 5.1 in the first place and no conversion is necessary. Cool. Not sure how the built-in mics will do on quality, but a test or two during the return/warranty period ought to answer that.

Congrats on the video GG it was fun watching like always good job. I think you need to put an inverter on your quad for AV power LOL man with all the stuff you have the poor 12 v battery has got to be hurting
I downloaded the full version from your web site the camera sure take a awesome picture. I got a few new goodies for my collection the pinnacle transfer switch and she work sweet it needs power that is the only draw back. It uses 5 v at 1500 ma so a 6 v battery would work just fine more stuff to wire up
I use the simpletech drive 320 gig and take the output from the camcorder and send that through the transfer switch and that sends the video to the simpletech drive. How cool is that my man. The drives need to be reformatted to fat 16 or 32 NTSF file system will not work the HD's come formatted in NTSF
All hail Steve Jobs again the stupid NTSF files can't handle the video. The cool switch will also record in 3 modes. iPOD 320x240 to 640x480 then PSP but that is 320x320 only then the best NTSF,PAL,SECAM from 320x240 to 720x576.
I like the fact that you can put 187 hours of video on a 250 GB HD at the best setting.
Ok e-mail me if you want more information on the switch and I hope the snow is starting to melt for you.

Yes Trainman, Flyin Boy says he's going to work on that tongue chewing thing. We figure it must have started after he had some dental work and was short 4 teeth for a while. He wasn't doing it back in the Granite and Grunge and Get Ready videos, and didn't even know he was doing it in this series of videos until we got back from Utah and saw the footage. Confirmed: Someone's going to lose a tongue if they don't drop that new habit!
Dang Vulcan, sounds like you have quite the cool setup! 187 hours of video without changing tapes. WooooHooooo! Yes, please E-mail me the specifics. I'm buried with work right about now, but the Grizzlies are going to be buried in snow until about mid-June from the looks of the snow pack, so I'll still have plenty of time to check it out.
This 5V regulator ought to work for your power supply:

Add a couple electrolytic capacitors for filtering and surge suppression as shown here:
http://www.tkk.fi/Misc/Electronics/circuits/psu_5v.html
Here are some capacitors for you, or they should have them at Radio Shack:

No worries on the 12V power for me, or for you if all your gadgets start loading down the battery. Somewhere around here, Larry posted info on wiring up an extra battery in parallel.

Thanks GG
I will try and build one but I need to change the output to 1500 ma
I see the link talks about that so I will do my homework now and build a power supply regulator for the switch WooHoo your the man
I was thinking about a new stator for my quad jacking the output up that would handle everything.
How is the new setup for the HD camcorders coming ?? I know you have been talking about this for some time now. Sure will be sweet to see some HD video and I see your looking at the 5.1 audio what a awesome way to go true sound to bad they don't have jacks for mic's that would rock.
Keep us posted on what your doing I want to here all the details

You're OK with that 3A regulator, Vulcan. Your gadget is only going to draw 1500 ma (1.5A) so having a regulator capable of supplying 3A just gives you some extra headroom. Headroom is good. But if you want to get a 5A regulator or something like that, even better.
Man, I haven't gotten anywhere on the HD project. Too dang much started happening at work. As usual, you're way out ahead of me on the video gizmo front, and poor ole GG is just trying to catch up to the bus again.
P.S. - Make sure you wire those electrolytic capacitors with the correct polarity (the cans will have polarity marked on them). They will fizzle and maybe even poof if you wire them backwards.

Kendo that would be awesome but with the price of fuel i don't know.
one lives in Ca the other in Fl so that is going to be a long haul LOL
Lets see some where in Texas should be about 1/2 way that should cost me about 1000 bucks round trip for fuel Hum.......
GG that is cool but I was thinking bigger is always better so to be on the safe side 5A who knows if this will even work using a HD when riding to record with could be a problem with all the bouncing and rolling over

LOL! Nah, he ain't my type Kendo. Too MALE for example. So you're out of the running too.Kendo wrote:Perhaps you two would like to get a room somewhere and bring all your little electronic devices??
Besides, we're saving all of our best gadgets and gizmos for our Osama hunt. When we come riding back into town with Osama tied across a Grizzly front rack like a vanquished buck deer... then we'll see who's laughing. And we know where Osama is really hiding, right Vulcan?
I just don't know why he talked me into "going short" with small arms and mortars while he gets to sit way back and plink him with his .50 cal. I think I got the short end of the stick on that one, yes-sir-eee....
