Kick start the economy

Postby FishaHallic » Fri Jan 25, 2008 9:59 am

In a feeble attempt to kick start the economy I have taken it upon myself to spend my gov't economic stimulus check on several items. First I went ahead and bought the Garmin 60CSX, now I know alot of you guys use the Magellan explorist XL but that Grizzly Guy is a good salesman and after much thought I went with the Garmin. I also bought the Ram mounts for the unit and I went ahead and got the roller fairlead for winches using a plow.

Good for you, Dave! We can't be letting any of those nasty recessions get too far out of hand, and we can't just let the new Cabelas down at Boomtown be 100% responsible for stimulating consumer spending.

But hey, I would have taken a good hard look at the Magellan Triton that we were talking about here. Yeah, sounds like it has some bugs right now, but the Magellan geeks might just swat them all before too long. Or not. Who knows. :?

While attempting to do something good, you've made the post count for this forum 666. What have you DONE?

Mine is going to winch tools, and tire repair kits, and some mad dog fender bags.

Oh greeeeaaat, I bought the wrong GPS...J/K. Griz, I am not one of those guys that needs the latest and greatest (even though I did buy a King Quad :D )I just want a unit that works good and that I can actually see and hopefully that is what I am getting in the Garmin 60CSX.

There you go Dave, there's a lot to be said for proven/reliable. NASA often builds space gizmos out of 20-ish year old electronics for just that reason. Even if it isn't "cool" to do so.

I almost bought a KQ myself for that same reason. Yamaha had come out with their fancy-pants power steering, and I was worried there just might be a mechanical "bug" in that gizmo. I can barely hold a wrench let alone turn one, and the thought of being stranded out in bum-fart Egypt had me real worried. They had no option to leave the power steering off (back then), so a KQ was looking real good. It had EFI that was older and more proven, and that was really all I was after.

Then Vulcan ran a test where he disconnected power from the power steering gizmo and confirmed that you could still turn it. RedGrizz said it really helped in rocks, so those two guys sold me. The heck with what Yamaha was saying, I generally discount whatever people trying to sell me something say. 'Hey sellin' guy, show me the data, show me your test methods and results, prove it to me.'

Maybe I wasn't the only doubting Thomas out there because Yamaha came up with the option to leave the power steering gizmo off in their 2008's.

Anyhoo, I think you're going to be happy with your 60CSx. Mine hasn't let me down yet. :)

He, he, he. Yeah, but that was back when I had my Garmin eTrex Summit. It died in the storm.

But the 60CSx? Water-resistant to IEC 60529 IPX7 standards (can be submerged in one meter of water for 30 minutes). So now even if I roll out in the middle of Fordyce Creek, it should survive just fine. :D
