Tracks and Trails (the video)

This is a multi-cam video from my last ride of the 2007 season.

Trainman might like it because there is a real train in this one. I'm riding just SW of Truckee in Tahoe National Forest. If you missed the trailer, it is here. Paris Hilton wasn't able to make the premiere Kendo and I were planning, so I figured I'd just premiere it right here.

Bravo GG, you did it again. Looks like a place that a bunch from our club goes to over Labor Day. The train tunnel we go thru is 1 mile long. It was built in 1892. It get really freakie in the middle if you have not been thru it before. The water gets pretty deep in spots. Last year it was almost 3 foot deep. As always great video

Thanks guys! MTRider, you need to bring your cam along next Labor Day. That tunnel of yours sounds like an outstanding location for an ATV video shoot. Claustrophobia, risk of drowning, everything you need. 8)

I guess I forgot to tell you, RG: I modified my Griz so that it now has a trash-burning steam engine so as to get the enviros off my back. Yeah, I just load up a bunch of Sierra Club literature (the trash) and pop some into the burner any time I need a little extra steam.

What's next you ask? I don't know, but how about this:

'The epic tale of an eclectic group of obsessed ATV riders who set out to prove that you CAN ride an ATV from Truckee, CA to Bend, OR'

Heck, even if the video sucks, that could be quite a ride! Folks like Vulcan and QMaze might even fly in from their faraway locations just to be in the cast.

Oh man that was an excellent video. What software do you use to do your editing? iMovie, iDVD? Your really good, nice touch coming back down and blowing the horn.

Thanks QMaze, but I'm just a rank amateur at this video stuff. The credit goes to Steve Jobs and the gang over at Apple because I'm using Final Cut Studio for editing on one of their mac pros.

I used the older Final Cut Pro v5 for this video and the other recent ones, but I just installed the new Final Cut Studio 2 yesterday. Sometimes I use Motion (part of the suite) for doing the titles with the moving text. This software is incredible. You can learn to do the basic stuff pretty fast, and it has all kinds of other cool capabilities that I am only scratching the surface on. All of the train sounds were fake, I found them on a freeware sound effects site. :)

I started out with Pinnacle on Windows and moved to the mac when I started doing the multi-cam shoots. It was either go to the mac or upgrade to Adobe Premiere. My wife is a big mac fan so she finally convinced me to give the 'dark side' a try. Best thing I ever did, macs and their software are unbelievably good. Especially when all you'd known before that was windows, and stuff not working right just seemed normal. :)

Rats, I forgot to do my music credit. So here it is: The song was the instrumental version of "Off Me" by Saints of Silence,. Cool band. 8)

Well, at least you got the "rank" part of that right. I'm not so sure about the amateur part of it though. Remember, I knew you when.

Good video though.

Ok that sounds good. What kind of BTU ratings are you getting from the Sierra club literature?. I was thinking of getting a waste oil heater for the shop to do my part but your idea may be better enviornmentally

PaPaJack looks like you will need another plane ticket in the future :D

This could be like the old railroad competition to meet in the middle. RG, JJ and I could start in Bend and GG and his crew start in CA and let's see who makes it further.

Well RedGrizz, the BTUs haven’t been too good. I think all the BS in the fuel has something to do with that.

That’s a great idea Pa Pa Jack, because then you guys could carry the bail money. Why? Because we might have to touch our tires to pavement here and there, maybe even go through Downieville, and CA law enforcement doesn’t take too kindly to pavement-touching:

So if we don't show up to help drive in the Golden Spike, you can just get that bail money on over to the local pokey.

P.S. - No, I wasn't in on that one but I sure wish I was.

Outstanding video GG. I DO love the trains included. The first one sounded like a steamer tourist train, or did you just dub that in. There is a lot of railroad history around your area.
I also love the huge timber you were riding it. That looks like an excellent ride. I would love to to come up there and ride.
Finally, the coming and going shots are fantastic. I guess each one is done twice, and then edited together. right? As always, the editing is fantastic.
Thanks

By the way, GG is there some kind of subliminal message in the fact that the train going over the tunnel you went through has UPS trucks on it? As someone who spends a lot of time waiting for the brown truck also, there has got to be some hidden, or obvious meaning in this.
Since this is your last ride of the year, I am playing this video over and over to see what other messages there may be for us.

Hahahahaha, I didn't even notice that - how appropriate, for ANY of us on this site. I truly do know my UPS driver by his first name - Scott is my friend. :)
