Hah! Great thought, but no, I wasn't trying to send any subliminal messages. The train coming down the grade at the moment I was picking up the ground cam was just a cool accident. All I could think to do was pick up the cam and point it in the general direction of the train. But it could be that some greater power saw me doing this and decided to send everyone a message or two {queue mysterious music}. :)

Yes, all of the train-related sound effects were added later. I found them all here after I started editing:

http://www.therecordist.com/pages/downloads.html

As to the riding back shots, here is the story: If I decide to stop and place a ground cam, it takes me a lot of time to get all the cams rolling and resynched with a clap (all the cams have to point at me for that), place the cam on the trail, etc. So I usually ride in each direction past or over the cam to make the "time investment" pay off. So when I edited in the going uphill shots for the main part of the video, then the song slowed down and I needed more video to finish the song with, I figured I'd put in the shots of me going the other way and speed them up. Not like I planned it that way or anything, it just seemed like my only option for a decent ending. :-)

Yup, there sure is a lot of train history around these parts. You ought to come out here and ride some time. Hemingray has found lots of old spur lines that were used in the old days for getting out timber, etc. I keep telling myself that some day I'll ride around and shoot a historical documentary or something, but then the riding gets too fun and I forget all about it.

Wow, GG, you put the sounds in just right too. What else would I expect? I fully expected a steam engine to roll past you at the very beginning.
Those old RR beds are great for ATV riding. We rode one in Idaho, from Island Park over the continental divide into West Yellowstone, twice. What a great ride.
You need to go around and map them, then for sure I am there.

Griz,

What the hell is your server? 2 cups, string and a spinning pizza pan? My download is normally 2-3GB...and I'm getting modem like download speeds.

Hah! It could be, Ken. It's just an el-cheapo shared server site over on GoDaddy.

Then again, with the worldwide GrizzGuy viewing audience up in the billions ( )... it could just be a little slow right now.

That would be it GG, the bandwidth is being sucked dry by everyone looking for trains and the UPS man.

I recommend making the move to 1and1.com. The largest host in the world...enormous in UK. Came to the US in 2003 offering 3 years free hosting....it's how atvobsession started.

I host racerxband.com on Hostony, and wouldn't recommend them. But 1and 1 I would.

Good info Ken, maybe I'll switch. I almost went with 1and1 when I setup the site. They were cheaper but some reviewers dinged them on tech support. That, plus the fact that the GoDaddy ad girls were prettier, steered me the other way.

But as far as my wife knows... it was just the tech support reviews that did the steering, OK?

P.S. - Danica Patrick is still on their home page. :D

Ok...there maybe a ding on their support....

but I've never used it!

Hostony my MySQL has gone down (and the board) probably 10-15 times since 2002. Plus at $200 a year, I only get 100GB a month. I think my 1and1 is 1000GB.

1and1...since 2003. Zip, at least that I'm aware of. (excuse the dangling preposition)

1and1 was actually expensive when they first started...the free 3 year deal..actually bridged the gap to them lowering prices.

Trust me, if GG has a tin cup it is loaded with a strange blue concoction that he devours throughout the entire winter. I think it's some kind of anti-freeze.

Shoot, that's nothing. Get enough of that blue concoction that Pa Pa Jack refers to into my system, and I'll REALLY give you something to laugh at.

Fortunately, I consume my anti-freeze in moderation.

At least when snow-bound in the cabin and dealing with the pesky stick and pizza pan.

The big intake funnel at the chemical disposal sites that accept old anti-freeze? From hundreds of people? Daily?

He, he, I wish. But I think Ken nailed the bandwidth problem: GoDaddy is just a SlowDaddy these days. :)

Speaking of trains, here is a film that train fans might want to check out, highly entertaining:

The Station Agent
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0340377/

My wife and I happened to catch it on the independent film channel a week or so ago. Starts a little slow, then you can't help but watch to the end. I didn't know there were people who actually follow trains around in their cars to video them, pretty cool. 8)

As soon as Hemingray pops in and confirms he's got the location of some of those spur lines waypointed, I should be able to whip you up a nice GPS map for your Garmin 60 that will guide you right to them. So no more excuses at that point Trainman, you can just toss your quad on a west-bound flatbed car and come on out to RIDE! :D
