Fordyce - Winch Hill #1 19 years ago

Postby Ken » Thu Nov 15, 2007 10:03 pm

I have an old poster from the Sierra Trek in my office. I was staring at it the other night, when I realized, it was me going up Winch Hill #1 with my 31" Armstrong Norseman Radials (Sucky tire).

Really gives you an idea how much the trail has changed in 19 years.

Ahhhh... Now I understand why you handle that trail so easily: you're an Old Fordyce Fahrt (OFF).

So Grampa Ken, please tell us stories of how it was to take your ole model T Ford down Fordyce. Hey, doesn't look like too many bolts for you to lose way back then, eh Grampa? Looks like it might have ridden a bit rough, though:

Baahahahahahhhahaaa, now that's FUNNY!!

Fordyce hasn't changed NEARLY as much as the Rubicon. There are some spots that are barely recognizable from 20 years ago.

Lest we not forget 'Gatekeeper' or should we now say 'Paved Entrance to one of the toughest trails in the US'??

IMHO, that was one of the WORST decisions the FS could have made. I think it allows much less capable vehicles thru and area that should have been the decision making point for them. Instead, now they get further in and get themselves in trouble much further from any kind of 'assistance'.

But that's just me........

You need to use a photo website such as www.photobucket.com then copy and paste the IMG tag of your picture after it is uploaded to the photo site. There usually an IMG tag just below the picture on photobucket.
Hope that helps!
