Red Rock Utes

Postby oldtrucks » Mon Oct 22, 2007 4:36 pm

Mr. Bill and I went to Red Rock State park this past weekend. It's East of Bakersfield about 85 miles up in the hills NE of Mojave. There's got to be a thousand or more miles of riding, most is typical high desert terrain, nothing real technical but very scenic, very much like Nevada. I took my Rhino and Mr. Bill his new RZR and we rode some friends I have from that area, we had a total of 9 Utes and a couple ATV's.

Saturday night the wind was blowing so hard I thought the motor home was going to fly. In fact it was so bad Mr. Bill slept in his Red slippers fearing he'd wake in Oz (not the prison Chadd).

That wind was the first part of the main system that's blowing So Cal off the map right now. Glad the campers stayed rubber side down for ya.

Great stuff down there huh. I grew up riding all over that desert and beyond.

how long did it take you to get there?

three days Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
It was weard because everyone else had Rhinos and were very in to them (some big money ones)
I was the only one with the RZR about the only thing bad they could say is it does not have much storage
The RZR is much faster.

Loppy I picked up Gloating Bill in Sacramento and we started driving at 5 am, we were there by 11:30. We stopped once to check the load (10 min), once for fuel and propane (25 min), and one time for some breakfast (25 min).

From my door to our camp spot was 419 miles, 843 round trip. Pretty cool pulling into the old town of Randsburg and finding several hundred motorcycles/atv's/utv's parked in a designated area, then just driving off through town

I absolutely love places like that. Even in Virginia City, a fiarly busy main stream place, you'll see on any given weekend a few UTES and a quad or two parked right out in front of the Bucket of Blood on main street. Very cool.

Spent much of my childhood out in Ocotillo Wells. When me and my family would pull into town and ride ride up to the Iron Door Saloon for lunch in the middle of town, my 10 yr old ass thought I was the king ding a ling buzzing in on my YZ 80. LOL. Oh, the good ol days...

ATV friendly towns rule. I hope to retire in one someday.

That's how it is in Utah as well. When we were out there a few weeks ago, we rode all the way up then back down the main street in Richfield, which is a pretty decent sized town. Shot video the whole way too. We did this because... we could. And because we'd have been tossed in the pokey for doing something like that in Kalifornia.

In those towns, the big rule is to stay ON the pavement. If you ride on the shoulder, and the shoulder is dirt, the people's houses get dusted and they don't like it. It takes a bit of nerve to stay in your lane and keep the throttle squeezed full-on when you've got 18-wheelers coming up from behind (like on the 4-lane paved stuff outside of Salina) but you get used to it after a while. 8)

Yep, they live just up the road. I sent an email trying to get them to ride but never heard back, I'm wondering if they changed email?

Good News Dave, a washing machine for dogs. Or would that put you out of business?
