Video - Ride Armed!!
While sitting around the campfire midway through my Gold Valley ride, sipping margaritas and waiting for it to get dark, I decided to make a few public service announcements. Here is one of them:

Griz Griz Griz. Love ya man, but not sure what to think about that one. In your situation I 100% agree with you. Alone in the wilderness, I would carry a gun myself. However, I do not believe that you should be pushing for everybody to always carry a gun with them. Well, take that back, you can do what you want, but I disagree with the statement that everybody should be armed. Just my $.02, but your PSA should have included a little more about gun safety. Having a bottle of margarita in one hand, and a .380 in the other makes the video lose all validity. Don't worry, your still my boy and I hope to ride with you someday, just can't hold the opinions in on that one.
Thanks,
Zack

In a worst case situation where a predatory bear had to be my target (because he was on his way over to eat me)… then yup, that alcohol would steady my aim. Or at least keep me from running like a little girl.DAVE wrote: Not sure I would mention firearms and alcohol at the same time. unless it helps you to steady your aim.
Of course it may be a moot point because I, uh, forgot where the firearm was in this PSA made a bit later in the evening:

Good point, Zack. If you don't know what you are doing with a firearm, you have no business carrying one, IMHO. You'll most likely hurt yourself or someone else.zkeys wrote:Alone in the wilderness, I would carry a gun myself. I basically grew up with firearms: got my first .22 at age 4, first buck at age 9, etc. So I just don't feel comfortable without one if I'm on a solo trip deep in the wilderness. The bears, mountain lions, etc. actually worry me the least. But I saw Deliverance as a kid, and it had an impact on me. Squealing like a pig isn't my idea of having fun, know what I mean?

Just like American Express.
A few weeks ago I sold a vehicle to someone in Oakland and delivered it on my trailer. I jumped out of the truck with my Commander in plain sight on my side to the astonishment of the buyer. He made some comment about getting in trouble for carrying it out in the open, especially in that neighborhood. Told him it was ok, I actually had a permit, but asked if his friend with the revolver so pitifully hidden under his baggy shirt did? If it's possible I think he might have actually blushed

It's a conceal carry permit, not a in the open permit I have been cautioned about exposed weapons??(during training) of course you do have that shiney badge......I am sure that can't hurt.........oldtrucks wrote:Just like American Express.

A friend of my daughter, her boyfriend bought a lift kit off Craigslist....when he got there, they pulled a gun, took his car and the money he brought to buy the liftkit.
Scary.
Scary.
