Cinco de Mayo run - Moonrocks!

Postby Loppy » Thu Apr 19, 2007 3:10 pm

Anyone else interested? A few of us are kicking around the idea of heading north of Reno for the Cinco weekend and having some fun at Moonrocks.

All are invited. There's plenty of room in the high desert. :D

Hit the books young man. Or, just bring them. I'm sure around dinner, we'll be happy to quiz you on the material. We can have a study group. No drinking until we're fully satisfied you have it mastered.

Well Ken, now's your chance! Good thing about MR is it's only about a 2 hour drive. If the weather turns to crap, you can load up and come back home or stay at the Nugget! :D

So I am in. However, one minor detail is I have not bought ANY camping gear yet. I will get a sleeping bag and such, but can you guys cover me on everything like cooking, etc? The few things that made it are in boxes still....

I can cover your As* on that one. Between me and the almighty webmaster, Ken... we have tons of camping gear! Just let me know what you need. I think we have like 6 coleman sleeping bags! 2 Tents.... whatever!!

I'm sure if you have an ice chest and food, cooking chit wont be a problem. I'll have room in the truck, so I can bring all my stuff too. No problem.

You'll dig Moonrocks Ken. It's got a little bit of everything. Including roads that go off and dissappear in the sage brush. It sucks to have to turn around. LOL

Can you send a KMZ file from Google Earth with the location of Moonrocks. I'd like to do some pre-ride GPS recon, to see where those roads go!

We won't be able to arrive until Saturday, as there will be a Rubicon Trail Patrol training session in Placerville on Friday.

I cant use Google Earth right now, requires a download and I dont like doing that on the work Stinkpad.

I'll try and get on that tonight from home. In the meantime, I can get you close with directions.

80 to Sparks. North on "Pyramid Highway" or 445.
Left on Winnimucca Ranch Road
Another left on some road... not named, but goes to Prospect Hill Rd.
It's between winn ranch rd and Prospect hill.

Most of the riding is North of this location. I believe we could even ride all the way to Pyramid Lake if we had the gas and time.

I'll try and get better coordinates at home.

I think this will get you there on Google Earth: http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/download.php?Number=99441
The resolution in that area on Google is lousy tho.... Got this from another bike site, but it seems to match the directions... :-)

Sounds like an interesting place - just might head there myself!
