It's a lot of fun to go to this point tho, and there's a nice turnaround there.
That's the infamous "Goat Trail", best ridden from the top down if you and your machine are insured. Let the name be your guide. Very steep, tight switchback turns, loose jagged shale, straight down about 1500 feet, if you slip they'll pick you up at the bottom

Thats a great trail went up it twice today. I sold the sportsman so I was riding the honda 450r lol. Even made it up the goat trail to the top the first time. The second time I just went over the back. Didn't want to beat the 450 up any more lol.
Its cake on the 4wds, the 2wd 450 is a little more exciting. Hauling ass and doing wheelies up 50% of it.

Whats up with the trail?
It's a great ride up and I would hate to loose the chance to ride it anymore.

I'd say ride it while you can. The most current route map (April) shows the lower part as "route not proposed", which I assume will become "illegal to be on" when the final orders are issued. Inexplicably, the upper part shows as a system route. The map is very strange, it completely lacks geographic locations and other names, and there are some bizarre route markings. Are they trying to be obtuse on purpose or just hurrying too much? Who knows, but I am trying to ride everything in question now before they disappear.

See http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/tahoe/projects_ ... ndex.shtml for the maps and further confusing information... :?

Sure thing, Ken. I can't speak with first hand experience as to riding that one, because so far I'm not quite as crazy as you guys. But I'm a tryin!

If we're willing to help out with the maintenance on it, I don't see why the FS wouldn't want to designate it as a trail.

As you may or may not know the trail didn't make the approved list. Really not too much of a surprise in it's current condition. However, there is still a chance we can get it in, but we need to commit to the project. Still very early to know exactly what will be involved.

Currently there will be a group going up and doing an assessment of the trail, including GPS and Photo work. It won't require a large number, just a few of us to assist as needed.

When I have a better idea of when I'll post the information. At this time it could be Friday after Thanksgiving, possibly Saturday.

We presented a number of options but seems that everyone in the Tahoe NF is moving from one assignment to another.

Maybe this thread needs to be retitled "Remember the Switchback Trail". Along with the Tahoe apathy, the unsustainable part took it out. Sheesh.
