Lowell Hill Rd - Little York Diggins

Had some time this afternoon, so I piled the small machine into the truck and went down to the Little York Diggings area - northwest of Dutch Flat near the end of Lowell Hill Rd. Cool area to mess around in - run around the diggings or along the Chicago Park flume. Here's a few pix of the area. http...

We were glad to be able to meet Ken, Lori and Bill at the end of Sunday - wish we'd been able to hook up earlier. Even though it made for a long out-and-back trip we had a lot of fun. What a great area! Dixie's machine is still getting broken in but we got a chance to do some terrain training (compa...

Looks like we'll give it a shot this Saturday, some trail riding and maybe I can sample something more skill-building myself too. I've made that transition from carefully crawling up hills to "momentum is your friend" - am starting to have too much fun... 8)

I have an 07 Yamaha Grizzly 660 and I am extremely happy with it - though this is a short term opinion since I have only 22 hours on it so far. I considered the 700 EFI Grizz, but in all honesty I decided that it's technology seems a bit new. Anecdotal evidence from ATV boards all over seems to say ...

Bring the wife too! Get that "garbage hauling" quad out for a real "play" day! It's always great fun and GREAT...wait I wouldn't go THAT FAR.. so, I'll stick with "nice" people. Just watch out for Keith... Oh yes - I don't think I'll be allowed to take one quad out without the other... :shock...

I think this will get you there on Google Earth: http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/download.php?Number=99441 The resolution in that area on Google is lousy tho.... Got this from another bike site, but it seems to match the directions... :-) Sounds like an interesting place - just might head there myself! D...

I love my Garmin 60CS. I bought both the detailed streets and topo maps to download to it, you can have both in it (tho only one can be selected at a time), subject just to memory limitations. I have had no problems having enough room for whatever I want to download to it. Does great turn-by-turn in...

Region 5 Forest Visitor Maps - in PDF

The FS Region 5 web site has downloadable Visitor Maps (the big unmanageable inaccurate ones:-) available. Strangely, neither the Tahoe or the Eldorado include this feature on their pages! http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/forestvisitormaps/ Once you've selected a forest, look at the upper right corner for "P...

Thanks all - this will keep us busy for a bit! I couldn't find anything on the ENF website to the contrary, so I assume the Gold Note trail system is open.

Thanks Todd - I've almost always been thru there on a weekday (and was shocked last fall at how much Greenhorn Creek has deepened!) so I rarely see anyone there. I'll think about the trailer, it's pretty high clearance - but I know which spots you're probably thinking about! Thanks Larry - I am GPS-...

Thanks Ken & Larry!

Where do you put in at in the Greenhorn area? I'm loosely familiar with it on-road.

Where to go -- Auburn - Grass Valley - Placerville areas

With a dizzying array of illegal choices (closed OHV areas, etc.), can someone help out with some suggested riding choices (aside from Prarie City, Mammoth etc.) that can be legally be done currently in the subject areas? I've read tons on the forests, but it's really hard to tell what's legal and n...

another ATV noob....

Hi all, Got a new Grizzly 660 (GF has a Grizz 450 too) a few weeks ago and have really been enjoying learning it (used to be a street bike rider a couple of decades ago - eek!) in the local area. Glad to be in your backyard (I'm in the I-80 corridor near Applegate) and first found your site by looki...
