Hunter Lake Corridor open?

Does anyone know if the Hunter Lake Corridor is accessible? The Toiyable closure for the Hawken Fire in July closed the burn area and the area in the path of the fire, but now with it done, only the burn area is closed. I can't tell from the fire maps and the topos if the access from Reno is in fact...

Write your Congress Critters and ask them to support the Recreational Boating Act of 2007 (H.R. 2550).

Do we see a pattern here? Judicial decision, then legislative action to counteract it...

Turns out it was completed in 1970! The Old Bullards Bar dam was completed in 1924, but was only for mining debris storage. At 645 feet tall, the New Bullards Bar dam is the 2nd tallest dam in CA and 5th in the US. (Oroville is No. 1 in both - 770 feet)

All this in our own back yard! :-)

Spaulding still looks real good. Earlier in the summer, the canal from Bowman was shut down, and since Bowman still looks good, I'm guessing Rollins will have their supply thru Labor Day anyway. If you ever wondered what dumps into what, check these out - the Drum-Spaulding project "schematic" of wa...

Lindsay's movie totally bombed....her career is over until she flies right. For awhile! I guess her antics coupled with poor performance during filming has made her largely uninsurable. Unlike Paris who seemed to be just irresponsible, Lindsay seems to have some severe issues that will take more th...

When trailers die

Found this over near Rollins Lake. Looks like it just gave up. A note on it (dated July 19) said it was not abandoned and would be picked up on Saturday. Sure it will! I didn't know what classification that road was - the only place I could find something is the current proposed route designation map. I think that campground at the bottom even rents ATVs! I came upon some folks toodling up the road without helmets one day too. Sheesh. You're right about the speed,...

Regulatory insanity

Well, one court ruling created the Route Designation Project everywhere. None of our recreating is safe - here's another court ruling. Does anyone think the judiciary is maybe getting a bit out of hand? For 34 years the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has exempted discharges from recre...

Wow - you don't have to be a rock-crawler to love these tires - just got my set today and they are so nice on the roads too. They soak up the rocks like nobody's business - pure pleasure! Thanks, Ken, for all your raving - you made them an easy choice for me!

Climate research

Here I am, wasting the last hour here at work and ran across this gem - the author was referring to the Live Earth thing recently. I thought you guys would get a kick out of it... ----- Because Al Gore promised concerts on all seven continents, a bunch of British climate researchers living in Antarc...

Just like Larry proved his, I proved it out (22 years ago) mysefl by scraping up my helmet and leathers when I kissed the road going only about 20 mph - damn glad I was wearing them. I can't imagine biking or ATVing without a skid lid.

Hey Zack,

Just like sitting around the campfire telling stories - fun to read your story and know we've almost all been there, done that in one form or another. Sorry your trip was cut short, but glad your son was OK - that's the important part and that dad got home OK too!
